Year 5 visit to the Tower of London

The Tower Of London was a great experience for all of us. The trip revealed to us the hidden secrets of the Tower’s past. We were privileged to experience the strain of being an archer and a cannoneer. Our guide was very compelling and we were fortunate to experience the Battle of Hastings in a re-enactment in the grounds of the White Tower (creating quite a show for visitors!)

One of the most spectacular things we saw was the Crown Jewels. They were also the most frustrating, because we had limited time to see them, as we were on a conveyor belt. Another place we visited was the White Tower. It had been renovated many times, often quite crudely, to adapt to growing technology. It houses some extraordinary weapons and armour. There is also a statue of a dragon made out of weapons and jewellery.  We also saw the torture chamber. It contained the stretching rack, the manacles and more instruments of torture – fascinating! This was a fantastic trip rounded off very nicely by an ice cream!
