Summer Concert

This year’s Summer Concert was a real success (see the programme here).  The tradition of having a guest performance from one of our visiting music tutors was carried on this time by Christine Cunnold, voice.  All parents and children alike sat mesmerised by her performance of two Puccini and Handel arias.  One child commented that he had never been so close to a professional soprano before, or heard such a loud and lyrical voice in such a small hall.  This proved to be such a valuable experience for our choir members in particular; do hurry and sign your son up for singing lessons with Christine or Emily – we are so lucky to have such talent teaching at the school.  The orchestra played five pieces all with an Italian connection, including Santa Lucia  and O Solo Mio and received rapturous applause.  A notable highlight was our newly found String Trio accompanying the school choir in Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus with Adam Rowe, Milo Taylor and Vaughan Jubb-Buckley.  The choir also sang Elgar’s version of the same name and Ireland’s Ex Ore Innocentium; a particular favourite of the Director of Music.  Finally, the show was concluded by ten solo performances ranging from Bach Agnus Dei, (Alex Karlsson) and a most musical performance by Tobias Comberti of To a Wild Rose.  For many of the boys who performed on this evening it would have been the last performance for them in their time here at St. Anthony’s.  The music department in particular would like to thank them for their hard work, dedication, performances and talent throughout their years here.  The very best wishes to you all in your future schools; yet again you all are certainly going to make another music teacher extremely proud.
