Year 8 Sound Installation Project

Yr8 sound installation project

On Monday 11th Feb the artist Victoria Trinder arrived at St.Anthony’s to give a talk on the importance of sound in the visually dominated world of contemporary Art.

After listening to a fascinating talk on examples of experts in the field such as the great John Cage, the boys raced out into the playground to begin eagerly collecting samples from the acoustic world around them.

Gates were slammed, bushes shaken and snow balls crushed. The cracking of a leaf was captured. It was wonderful to watch the students exploring such an important but usually neglected realm.

Having uploaded their sonic discoveries, students compared findings enthusiastically before departing with the very firm intention of continuing their sampling over half term.

In the next session students will be digitally manipulating sounds and fabricating Mono-Amps to play them on.

I would like to say a big thank you to Victoria, Crispin and Karl for giving their expertise to make this project possible.
