St Anthony's Girls School Hampstead

Our Ethos

St. Anthony's aims to provide high quality education in a caring, supportive and Catholic environment, infused by Christ's Gospel, in order that each of our pupils is able to develop fully as an individual, well-adjusted to the wider community.

Wonder and curiosity are key in our department. These years are crucial to build pupils’ confidence, fascination and the skills that they will use for the rest of their lives, be it studying at university, making key discoveries, simply choosing how to insulate their homes or make sound decisions about their medical needs. They are also the years when there is a true wonder to the study of Science; the first time they ever truly understand how forces act on objects or how our eyes perceive the world. We are constantly impressed by how much boys can absorb at this age and we adore the challenge of answering their constant questions.

Science is the study of the world around us. Science enables us to make informed choices about the way we lead our lives and interact with our surroundings.

Science can be separated into 3 main disciplines:
• Biology: the study of the life and living processes of plants and animals
• Chemistry: the study of materials and their properties
• Physics: the study of physical processes including forces, electricity, magnetism, light and sound.

Our aims are:
• To develop an interest in and awareness of the increasing importance of Science
• To present boys with opportunities to carry out practical Science so that they can develop investigative skills, make observations and record data to inform their understanding of the world around them
• To prepare the boys for entrance (including Common Entrance) and scholarship exams.
